CROCKPOT SWISS STEAK

WOULD YOU EAT THIS CROCKPOT SWISS STEAK

This Crockpot Swiss Steak recipe features tender cuts of beef simmered in a rich tomato and vegetable sauce, served over mashed potatoes or rice. It’s a comforting, hearty meal that’s easy to prepare and perfect for busy days!

Ingredients:

For the Swiss steak:

2 lb round steak or chuck steak, cut into 1-inch cubes

Salt and pepper, to taste

1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for dusting)

2 tablespoons olive oil (for browning)

For the sauce:

1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes (with juice)

1 cup beef broth

1 medium onion, sliced

1 green bell pepper, sliced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or a mix of dried herbs)

1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the beef:

Season the cubed beef with salt and pepper, then dust lightly with flour, shaking off any excess.

Brown the beef:

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef in batches and brown on all sides, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Transfer the browned beef to the crockpot.

Prepare the sauce:

In the same skillet, add the sliced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

Stir in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and soy sauce (if using). Bring to a simmer and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Combine and cook:

Pour the vegetable and tomato mixture over the browned beef in the crockpot. Stir gently to combine.

Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the beef is tender.

Serve:

Once cooked, serve the Swiss steak over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles, spooning the delicious sauce and vegetables over the top.

Helpful Tips:

For added flavor, you can include other vegetables such as carrots or celery in the sauce.

If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can stir in a slurry of cornstarch and water during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

Enjoy your comforting Crockpot Swiss Steak!
